With little fanfare, Our Town first appeared in North Canton mailboxes in October 2001. The front page photo showed members of the our town gathered in front of City Hall, united in prayer for our fellow citizens and our nation in the wake of the 9-11 attacks. While none of us could have ever imaged a more somber debut issue, everyone associated with Our Town was optimistic about the publication’s future; confident it was a good thing in the midst of the devastating numbness we were all feeling.
Eighty-nine issues later, Our Town has earned a solid reputation for being a reputable source of news and information for the North Canton community.
For seven years, Our Town has been delivered to city residents free of charge. Rising costs of postage and production materials have made it necessary at this time to move to a subscription format.
Living in rough economic times, we’ve all become used to the clichés: It was too good to be true. There’s no such thing as a free lunch. All good things must come to an end.
We ask our readers to look at the subscription in another way: North Canton news written by members of the community, covering events that touch the lives of residents of all ages – at $15 a year, it’s a bargain.
