LETTER FROM OUR EDITOR

By DONNA NICKEL

It's only a day, but it holds so much potential. New Year's Day, the world's most celebrated holiday reminds us to take a look back at last year's successes and failures, and encourages us to look forward to the promises of new beginnings and second chances. It's a time to take stock and take a look at ways to better ourselves. Diets begin in earnest, cigarettes are traded in for nicotine patches, and the staff at the YMCA is waiting to welcome both newcomers and born-again exercisers with open arms.
With both welcome and dreaded changes happening in North Canton, this new year is a good time to reevaluate our responsibilities as residents. In 2007, challenge yourself to be a better citizen. What will that take, you ask? As you make your way through this issue of Our Town, you'll find plenty of ideas. Check out “Hot Flashes” and take Beth Bauman up on her invitation to join a Community Committee. Discover how to learn about the city's past by reading the newly digitalized issues of The Sun. Contribute to the Education Endowment Fund and support innovative ideas that contribute to the excellence of North Canton City Schools, which in turn keeps the city highly marketable. Be inspired by students and youth in the community who have found fun ways to help those in need. Take a good look around you, the possibilities are plentiful.
Here's wishing all of you a very joy-filled 2007.
Donna
