LETTER FROM OUR EDITOR

By DONNA NICKEL

There is no past, as long as books shall live.
Books make the past our heritage and our home.
- Edward Bulwer Lytton

As a hometown newspaper, past issues of Our Town do indeed become a part of the heritage of North Canton and its residents. As we begin a new chapter in 2008, here’s a look back at some of the stories that appeared in Our Town’s January 2007 issue:

* The announcement that Techtronic Industries purchased the Hoover Co. from Whirlpool for $107 million the previous month was still fresh news.

* Collection began on the North Canton City School’s levy passed the previous May Unlike other schools district’s surrounding North Canton, the need for a levy was not the focus for residents in 2007.

* Sue Seivert was featured in “Meet Your Neighbor” The manager of Cutler’s North Canton and Alliance offices, Sue announced her retirement in late 2007.

* The first annual Rising Star, an American Idol-like singing contest was announced. The North Canton Playhouse project was a huge success with Baker Dublikar attorney Melissa Day singing her way to the winner’s spot at the grand finale last March.

Looking toward the future, we welcome Ty Lee as she takes over as business manager for Our Town. Ty earned a BA in telecommunications from Indiana University and a masters in journalism from the Ohio State University. She and her husband Paul have three children, one in college and two attending schools in the district.
