By the time September rolls around, most of us are packing away the beach chairs and at least thinking about putting the vacation photos in albums. There's still plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors though, and the Hoover Park Trail could not be more convenient.
The 2.2 mile trail is located in the Washington Square area and was constructed by the Stark County Park District Crews in 2002. The trail includes a 10-foot wide limestone trail and a concrete sidewalk along East Maple Street; well suited for biking, walking, running or walking the dog. Marshes, wildlife, a quiet neighborhood, sports fields, storefronts, Hoover Park and the Hoover homestead - all are part of the scenery.
My parking strategy is simple: park where you want to end up. If you want you want to go the route of least temptations, making your excursion one of pure exercise, opt for the spacious lot at the North Canton Little League Fields. On the other hand, if you think you might need, or deserve a reward for getting off the couch, park at the far east end of the Washington Square Lot. There, icecream, sandwiches, burgers, coffee and other treats await you at the trail's end.
On another note, Our Town wishes Trish Stahl much success as she sets off on a new path. For nearly five years, Trish has kept readers informed on the happening in the Greentown area and at the North Canton YMCA. Beginning with this issue, Susan Mansfield will report news from those areas.
