Superintendent of Schools Update

Michael Gallina

We, the school superintendents of Stark County, are committed to promoting and providing high quality education for all students within our public schools. We believe that this commitment is essential for the good of all people who live within the Stark County community.

We believe that high quality education provides the foundation of a democratic society, spurs economic development, deters crime and poverty, reduces the hardship for the disadvantaged, and encourages in all citizens the pursuit of life-long learning that is essential for the twenty-first century.

To honor this commitment to high quality education and to verify our related beliefs we pledge to do the following in accordance with the policies established by our respective boards of education and with the collective approval by our individual board members:

We will make day-to-day decisions with the realization that our students, the precious children of our Stark County community, are the most important resource for the success of our schools, our community, our state, and our nation.

We will work diligently to reduce expenditures through collaboration and through research and analysis of current practices, so long as these reductions lead to greater efficiency and effectiveness and do not adversely affect the safety of our students nor lower the quality of education that our students need and deserve.

We will make every attempt to avoid any reduction of expenditures that lowers the quality of education, creates greater disparity among students in terms of socio-economic standing, or otherwise adversely affects the disadvantaged or disabled even though legal requirements and economic conditions may force us to reduce operating expenses from time to time.

We will make every effort to reverse at the earliest possible time decisions and practices that were previously instituted because of legal requirements and/or economic conditions if these decisions and practices violate our commitment to high quality education and our stated beliefs and adversely affect the education or well-being of students.

We will support salaries for our employees that are reasonable, fair and are market driven. In particular, we will support salaries for teachers that will attract the brightest and best teachers to Stark County and that will encourage our finest high school graduates to consider teaching as their chosen profession.

We will work cooperatively with business, industrial, and government leaders to support and promote decisions and actions that help make Stark County an ideal location in which to live and work.

We will work closely with the leaders of our local colleges and universities to ensure that there is alignment and articulation of the education curricula between our public schools and high education that will thereby significantly increase the college-going rate of our high school graduates.

We will work cooperatively with students, staff members, parents, board of education members and community members to assure that our students receive the high quality education that they need and deserve.

THANKS!!

Mike Gallina
Superintendent
