Late frost on June 4th and 5th kills all local spring crops.

96 Years Ago 1911

Mohler lumber company is established.

First services held in present brick St. Paul’s Church building. It replaces original structure.

The National Biscuit Company (later NABISCO) introduces Oreos, the world’s most popular cookie.

The South Pole first reached by Norwegian, Roald Amundson.

67 Years Ago 1940

Eighty-two children are evacuated from England and Scotland for the duration of WW II. Many of these children settle in North Canton.

The first color television broadcast airs using the system developed by Peter Carl Goldmark.

The movie “Gone With The Wind” wins eight Oscars.

Nylon stockings are sold for first time in the States.

47 Years Ago 1960

Clearmont elementary school building opens.

North Canton Sideliners organize. Group was formerly known as the Booster Club.

Walsh College is founded.

America launches the first weather satellite, TIROS 1.

The Dead Sea scrolls are found at Qumran.
